Winter camp 2008 (.NET & SQL Server)

It’s my final year, around Oct 2008. Myself & my best friend cum President – Microsoft Visual Campus Club, Sriprasad were planning on a long term training in .NET (15 days) & SQL Server (5 days) in our college. We were planning to give some resource dvd’s to the participants and ensured that the prepared schedule for both the camp should be filled with most of the Microsoft Student Partners around Madurai. And we both prepared some banners, id card designs, stickers & posters for dvd.

One of the major challenge that we faced is all these things were followed in parallel to our semester exam preparations. Somehow we managed with both of the challenges. After every exams, we use to meet our Principal / Dean / HOD and discuss a lot (actually many corrections in our design ). At last all the designs were finalized and the below is the poster that we used to advertise in our college.

We’ve informed our senior MSPs and fellow MSPs about this & with their encourage and support every step was taken. For the whole 15 days .NET Camp, we’ve collected Rs.150/- as the registration fee and passed the invitation mail to all our friends and juniors. And we got good response for this .NET camp too. The finalized registration count was 36 & our dean inaugurated our camp as”Training Students by Students” and encourages us to continue the effort.

It was our first day in our camp. We able to see with lot of expectations in our student’s face, I’ve started my first session with Introduction to .NET. Lot of works in between like arranging the snacks for our camp students during breaks, were managed by myself and Sri. Some of our speakers couldn’t come to our camp, as promised, due to unfortunate reasons. And this is the extreme challenge for us. .But all is well, we both managed to do everything. Sivakumar, MSP of Kamaraj College of Engg., all the way travelled from Virudhunagar to KLN for almost 3 days for our camp and delivered some wonderful sessions. Srikanth, MSP of M.Kumaraswamy Engg. Clg. has taken a half-day session on some cool technologies in Microsoft. Though the camp majorly focused on .NET, we do covered a lot of technologies incl. AutoCollage, Silverlight etc. At the end of each day, there would be 2 hrs. of lab exercise where the student has to do the program in .NET which was guided by us.

It was the real fun during our camp. We received comments from our participants at the end of everyday & improvising the camp day by day. This is how, we successfully ended our 15 days camp.

Later we organized 5 days SQL Server winter camp & succeeded in the same.

The below are some of the feedbacks received after our camp:

Making of Winter Camp – Season 2

Winter Camp Season 2 is nothing but the long period technical training @ KLN College of Information Technology, Madurai (India). In the initial stage, I’ve named as Winter Camp 2009, but its a pretty bore name to specify the year at every time of winter camp. So jus copied from Vijay TV ), the Season 2 came into existence.

For a change to last year’s winter camp, this year we’ve planned to include two tracks in Winter Camp Season 2: IBM Software Development Track & Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Track.

IBM Software Development Track

I still remember the struggle in doing TGMC (The Great Mind Challenge Contest) projects since there are log of IBM software & technologies to be studied. So, considering the importance of this, we thought why don’t we teach these technologies to the fellow students, which will help them to do TGMC project.

So, this year we’ve scheduled the camp for 10 days period to teach all the necessary topics required for doing the TGMC projects.

Its supported by DB2 On Campus community.

Around 45 students benefited with this camp..

Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Track

The robust database from Microsoft, The SQL Server 2008. Last year in Winter Camp 2008, we had 5 days training for around 45 students. This year extended to 10 days training.

The main goal of our camp is to reach the importance of database & the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 development & db administration track to our students. So, instead of .NET Winter Camp, for the second time, we’ve again planned to conduct SQL Server Winter Camp.

It’s supported by PASS (The Professional Association for SQL Server)..

Greetings!

Welcome to my personal blog space & hope you’ll enjoy reading it!

Why #include<stdio.h> as the title?

Today’s programmer or a software geek should have learned C programming either during their academics or in their respective organizations. The first thing that we learn in C program, is the header #include<stdio.h>. This is one of the most important header in C library, as well as many of us might have used in their programs without knowing it’s actual use in early “beginner” days ( like me ). Many programmers life are as typical as that. Let me not move into this controversy.

Beyond every IT professional, there’s a beautiful life. Every one is enjoying, including myself. But do we get ourselves time to share those? I do get and hence it’s the main reason for the redesign of my old blog. That’s why, ‘Life Beyond Programming’ has been kept as the tag line.

And for my tech readers, I’ll be launching a separate tech blog early Jan 2011. I’ll update it in my blog once I’m done. Chalo, meet you in my next post!
